Trinidad and Tobago Events & Attractions

Caribbean people love to celebrate! No matter which island you go to you are likely to find yourself close to someone dancing to original salsa, seductive jazz or sexy rumba. Caribbean festivals are famous for being vivid and passionate, filled with live music and dance, King and Queen elections and street parades. Carnivals are clebrated all over the year by wearing masks and rich, colorful costumes. Anywhere you go in the Caribbean you will experience the diverse culture and the ethnic blend of Spanish, Dutch, Indian and African heritage.

Our favorite and not-to-be-missed festivals are: Reggae Sumfest held in July in Jamaica, Junkanoo held in December in Nassau, Bahamas, Port of Spain's Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago and Santiago's Carnival in the Dominican Republic.

Panyard Sensations, hosted by the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) in conjunction with Pan Trinbago Incorporated, is a concert series that highlights Trinidad and Tobagos national instrument, the steelpan, as well as the practitioners of this remarkable art form.

Republic Day

When: 09/24/2009
Where: Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago became a Republic on August 1st, 1976. The event is celebrated as a public holiday on September 24th because this is the date when the first Parliament met under the new Republican Constitution.

Launch of Parang Season

When: 09/27/2009 , End of Septembre
Where: Trinidad and Tobago
Launch of Trinidad's Parang season. Parang is a musical artform of Hispanic origin aged at approx. 319 yrs old. Its influences are Spain and Latin America (Spanish, African and Indigenous origins). Original, acoustic instruments are used. There are two variants to Parang: Kwesh Parang and Soca Parang.

Blue Food Festival

An annual event of entertainment and cooking skills featuring local food with particular emphasis on blue food. Admission is free.

Chutney Monarch Competition

The Chutney Monarch is an annual event which showcases the performances of Chutney Artists vying for a grand prize. The event is a good part of indian culture and expands Chutney music and culture holistically. Each stage is judged based on criteria, lyrics, performance and contenders are fewer.
