Belize Events & Attractions

Caribbean people love to celebrate! No matter which island you go to you are likely to find yourself close to someone dancing to original salsa, seductive jazz or sexy rumba. Caribbean festivals are famous for being vivid and passionate, filled with live music and dance, King and Queen elections and street parades. Carnivals are clebrated all over the year by wearing masks and rich, colorful costumes. Anywhere you go in the Caribbean you will experience the diverse culture and the ethnic blend of Spanish, Dutch, Indian and African heritage.

Our favorite and not-to-be-missed festivals are: Reggae Sumfest held in July in Jamaica, Junkanoo held in December in Nassau, Bahamas, Port of Spain's Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago and Santiago's Carnival in the Dominican Republic.

Gray Line's Cave Tubing from Belize City

Where: Belize
A transfer from Belize City on the Western Highway brings you to the Caves Branch River and its winding path through the Maya Mountains and numerous ancient caves once inhabited by the Maya. On arrival at Jaguar Paw, be prepared for a 45-minute jungle trail hike. Your guide will point out various plants, roots, and herbs once used by the ancient Maya.

Gray Line's A Tale of Two Cities

When: 01/01/2009 - 12/31/2009 , Year-round
Where: Belize
Located 35 miles from Belize City on the Old Northern Highway, Altun Ha ("Rock Stone Water") is a great example of a Mayan ceremonial and trading site. It was here that Dr. Pendergrast uncovered what is considered to be the most precious of all Mayan artifacts and the largest piece of carved jade in the Maya World--the Jade Head representing Kinich Ahau, the sun god. The site is easily accessible, and not a difficult walk.

Gray Line's Community Baboon Sanctuary

When: 01/01/2009 - 12/31/2009 , Year-round
Where: Belize
The Community Baboon Sanctuary, located on the banks of the Olde Belize River, is located 30 miles west of Belize City off the Northern Highway. Consisting of some 18 square miles of subsistence farms, the sanctuary exhibits the spirit of coexistence that Belizeans have with nature. Though a grassroots effort, the villagers and landowners have committed to preserving the habitat necessary to ensure a healthy population of Black Howler Monkeys.

Gray Line's Lamanai Tour from Belize City

When: 01/01/2009 - 12/31/2009 , Year-round
Where: Belize
This tour is a combination of river and ruins. From Belize City it's 50 miles by road to Orange Walk where the tour takes to the water. The New River winds itself through a rich haven of flora, fauna, and wildlife. Journey's end brings you to a spectacular lagoon where, resting just past the bank, the hint of a temple top can be seen above the rainforest canopy.

Gray Line's Xunantunich & The Belize Zoo

When: 01/01/2009 - 12/31/2009 , Year-round
Where: Belize
Your adventure begins as you head for the wildlife habitat known as The Belize Zoo. The zoo was created as a sanctuary for the country's indigenous species and is now home for an impressive array of large cats, primates, reptiles and birds. A visit to the zoo gives you the opportunity to see Belize's amazing wildlife in one location. The "guests" are housed in large compounds containing what would be their natural habitat. Birds, cats, crocodiles, monkeys...make up a seemingly endless list of inhabitants! This is a great opportunity to view and photograph those beasts of the rainforest not easily seen in the wild.

Gray Line's The Belize City & Zoo Tour

Where: Belize
The Belize Zoo boasts a wonderful natural wildlife habitat just 40 minutes up the Western Highway from the city. Only indigenous species are housed at the zoo, all of which have been either rescued or donated from owners who could not take care of the animals properly.

Krem New Year's Cycling Classic and Horse Racing in Burrell Boom

Where: Belize
Just when you think it is all over, there's the Farewell Parade and the burning of Momo, indicating the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent. Symbolically, Momo's ashes are used on Ash Wednesday.
