St. Vincent & The Grenadines Travel Tips

England and France fought several wars over St. Vincent & The Grenadines. The French settled here at the beginning of the 18th century, and built the first plantations to grow sugar, cotton and tobacco. The island of St. Vincent was ceded to the British in 1763, and then retaken by the French. Finally, according to the Treaty of Paris it was ceded again to the British. The islands gained their full independence only in 1979.

St. Vincent & the Grenadines are also known as 'The Jewles of the Caribbean'. St. Vincent has a mountainous interior, having La Soufriere, an active volcano in the north rising to 4,000 ft (1,220 m) as its highest point, and a sheltered and indented coastline on the Leeward coast, while the Grenadines are comprised of Bequia, Mustique, Mount Royal, Canouan and Union Island. These small, unspoiled islands are the perfect getaway for romance and discovery. The best way to explore the Southern Grenadines is with a sailing yacht.

St. Vincent & the Grenadines are not only popular among leisure sailors, but snorkelers and divers are also drawn by the region's underwater attractions, especially the coral-luscious Tobago Cays.
